City Mouse and Country Mouse (4/338)

Reason #4, Why I love Winnipeg!

Winnipeg offers the best of both worlds, and I love that I am a short 15 minute drive from any nightlife I wish to experience, but I can still get a view like THIS, right in my own backyard.

Close enough to all the action, but far enough away that the noise of all  lights don’t disturb my own slice of space.

Top that, Toronto.

Gotta love that big prairie sky!

I love Winnipeg, as this city mouse can and does enjoy a ‘country’ house.

That picture reminds me of an experience I had about nine years ago. I had been living in California for four years already and I went back to visit my family in Oklahoma for Christmas.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area (had even lived in San Francisco for two and a half years) and had grown so accustomed to the surroundings that I sort of forgot what stars looked like. Between the ever-present cloud cover and the plethora of city lighting, I had not seen a star in what seemed like ages.

My sister and her husband, at the time, lived literally in the middle of nowhere (unincorporated land) with no city lights for miles around. We drove for at least an hour over bumpy, deeply rutted dirt roads through an area that I felt sure was where serial killers go to bury their victims with confidence they’d never be found, until we finally arrived at my sister’s house. I stepped out of the car and looked up at they sky, amazed at all the stars!

I sighed deeply, looked at my sister, and said, “What ARE those things????”
